Vigil needs about 30 seconds of clean data before it will show anything. If it stays blank for longer, the watch is probably not getting a good reading:
Vigil will not show you a number it does not trust. A blank readout is the instrument being honest, not broken.
By design, Vigil is tuned to miss some activations rather than manufacture any. A tool that cries wolf gets taken off the wrist — and then it detects nothing at all, forever.
It also needs about two minutes to establish your baseline before it can alert at all. And it requires the pattern: heart rate up and variability suppressed. Climbing stairs raises your heart rate but leaves variability alone — that is exertion, not arousal, and Vigil deliberately ignores it.
Tell us. Alert precision is something we are actively measuring, and reports of false alarms are the single most useful thing you can send us.
A relative index, 0–100, where 50 means "at your baseline". Above 50 is more variable than usual; below 50 is suppressed.
It is deliberately not a millisecond HRV figure. There is no HRV value that is "good" in the abstract — 90 ms is unremarkable for a young endurance athlete and would be extraordinary for someone on beta blockers. Only deviation from your own baseline carries information, so that is the only thing we show.
Yes. Vigil is a watch-only app and runs entirely on the watch.
No. Vigil contains no networking code at all. See the privacy policy.
Delete the app from your Apple Watch. Everything goes with it. There is no copy anywhere else, including with us.
